Olsen Style

Just reflecting on inspiration while stuck inside during hurricane, I mean BLIZZARD Juno!

The Olsens opened a flagship store in LA that is so chic it's hard or comprehend...

Derek Lam 10 Crosby - Spring 2015

Dear Derek,
Thank you for keeping it cool. Pleats and folds and well placed buckles enhanced only by the color (olive!) of leather you have chosen.
Designing clothing acceptable and acclaimed from Downtown to the cobble streets of Memorial Day Weekend Nantucket is a feat! Congrats!
All the best,

Bonjour MB Fashion Week - Band of Outsiders

In the throes of my busiest season of the year...I cannot ignore the happenings online just a few hundred miles from my locale. Cheers and Happy Fashion Week!

Up first for my commentary is Band of Outsiders. I love a little variation on the classics, and what stands out the most in my memory before I even post the images of my favorite looks, is the reworking of a striped dress and a mini-toile that would make a Provençal swoon. Bravo. So far Spring 2015 looks pretty...pretty.

Grey Gray

Before I even start writing this post I had to officially look up whether or not I was using the correct spelling of this shade... It turns out my bipolar spelling of gray is right no matter which vowel I choose to insert (a or e).

Quick research revealed the "grey" (with an e) is proper in England and its current and former colonies exercising their versions of The Queen's English. America spells it "gray". The little ditty where I got this from recommended we remember "gray" in America, using the "A" as the common denominator. Since there are no American English teachers gazing over my iPad with a proverbial red pen, I will continue on using the e and a as I wish!

I love gray. It's not a sad or depressing color to me. It actually sacrifices itself as a incredible background for other colors to really do their thing. Have you ever noticed how colors pop so brightly on a gray day? It is not that I need a color to help me appreciate the values of gray in my wardrobe and lifestyle. I am happy with a head to toe gray look, and an entire room swathed in the cozy color. That said, a foggy, dark, gray day doesn't bring me down (it happens to be other variables that I allow to bring me down, not the fog).

Enjoy the images...brought to you by Gray January Days.

Happy New Year

It is funny how you rarely know the exact moment when something begins, but we always know when something has ended. Reflecting on life we have already experienced always brings nostalgia and possibly regret, wishing it had played out differently. It's predictable. How safe it is to examine what's already happened instead of dreaming about the future.

I choose not to regret. I try to banish worry from my life. Both acts are complete head games and a waste of time. For me, reflection on the past is a way to understand how to break a cycle, learn a lesson, relive an amazing feeling, and especially to feel gratitude for the continually incredible life that I lead.

Tonight is one of those markers in time. The end, the beginning, and a significant celebration so pronounced it is easy to recall our activities on the same date in years past. Happy New Year! May your reflection be enlightening, your dreams for 2014 be inspiring, and your evening be full of laughs (and maybe bubbles)!

Tis the Season

First let me thank all of my friends, family, and patrons for making this a great holiday season. I appreciate your support immensely, in all ways.
And if I have not sent you a proper thank you note, please accept my apologies. If you have not heard, I had a mishap that has sent me back for the next few months making it nearly impossible to do anything that involves my right hand...including writing.
Looking on the bright side, I am thankful for my three working limbs and my friends for making this as painless as possible. Merry Christmas!
