Why Don't You...

Why don't you spend your early Spring and coming Summer days along the seashore in New England collecting washed up lobster trap buoys to cover the casual entrance to your beach cottage or even the side of your shingled garage?
Aren't these colors divine?  They look like candy (I bet they don't smell like candy...remember these ocean worn bits may need a nice dose of bleach and sun or else they could be the low-tide scent of summer).

Is "Why Don't You" ever reasonable?  No.  Diana Vreeland's entries weren't reasonable for most women, even herself.  She did do a wonderful job inspiring and creating the imagery of a life of color, design, and overall happiness.  Cheers to that DV!

Why Don't You...

Why don't you, like Charlotte's Web author E.B. White, make an attempt to change the world AND have a smashing good time today?

Why Don't You...

When iconic fashion editor Diana Vreeland landed at Harper's Bazaar she penned a column of inspiring suggestions titled "Why Don't You?".  For the very reason she was chosen for her dressing style, her suggestions were not for the "ordinary" housewife circa 1950s-60s.  Mrs. Vreeland's point was never to be conventional, it was to inspire the reader into reaching for the better life, the best life, and the most stylish and creative life.
To inspire in my own creative life I would like to include a little "Why Don't You?" of my own.  I will try to include some inspiring images (none of which are my own more often than not...thank you to the photographer and alert me if the image belongs to you!).

Why don't you...plant a collection of monochromatic geraniums and gather them somewhere, like a wall or lining both sides of your steps?
My favorite color of geranium is pink.  Remember you must find geraniums soon because when this brilliant idea reoccurs to you in July you will not be able to find them!  Others geraniums will be on full thrive and yours will be non-existent.  Trust me.  I did this last summer.
Gorgeous in terracotta pots that only get better with age! Keep these beauties going all winter in your orangerie!
